The Highland Lakes SPCA holds adoptions by appointment only. We feel
this helps us find the right match between pet and potential owner. We
want our animals to find the right humans and the right homes that will
meet their needs. They have already had a rough start by the time they
reach us and we want the rest of their lives to be as wonderful as possible.
If you're interested in meeting one of our available pets in person, please
contact us by phone, or the foster volunteer listed for that pet. You can
find a list of our available dogs here. For a list of available cats, please
click here. Our primary goal is to place our available animals in suitable
and loving homes. Because of this, we reserve the right to screen
prospective owners and inspect each home environment to ensure its
suitability. We will also request veterinarian references. If you have
any additional questions about the adoption process, please feel free to
contact us.
The fees for adoptions are $70 for cats and $100 for dogs. Those fees
cover the cost of the spaying or neutering the animal, as well as
vaccinations appropriate for the age of the animal and the length of time
it has been in our possession. In compliance with Texas law, we also
microchip all of our spayed and neutered adoptable animals.
All of our adopted pets are spayed or neutered before they are released
to their new owners. This is included in the cost of adoption. Occasionally,
a puppy or kitten may be available for adoption before it has reached an
appropriate age for spaying or neutering. In these instances, the new
owners will be asked to place an additional deposit at the time of
adoption. This deposit is fully refundable once the animal has completed
the spaying/neutering process. We will be happy to set up an
appointment with one of our local veterinarians when the animal comes of
age.
